Welcome! Lovely to have you here. Feel free to make yourself a cup of coffee or tea, get cozy, and pretend you’re curled up on my living room couch comfortably as you read my story. I hope it inspires and encourages you, and that we get to connect personally soon!
Maybe you’re here wondering whether or not your child’s sleep will ever improve, and you feel discouraged and unsure where to turn. Maybe you’ve come across my site as you search for solutions on behalf of a good friend or family member. Or maybe you’re expecting a baby soon and want to know what you can do to encourage healthy sleep habits from the very beginning in your newborn.
Wherever you come from, let me assure you, I have personally experienced the effects of sleep deprivation and post-partum depression. I know what it’s like to wake up in the morning, bleary-eyed from multiple night wake-ups, emotional and unsure of how I’ll make it through the day. Thank goodness that’s not where the story ends! You see, I also know what a relief it is to finally feel rested again; to be confident in my baby’s ability to sleep well and to finally have energy to be the mom I want to be.
In February 2013, my daughter, our first child, was born. I had read multiple books on babies, their development, sleep, nutrition…you name it, I’d read it. I’d always been a natural with babies and children, but believe me, I was not prepared for the huge rollercoaster that ensued after becoming a first-time mom.
After a year of dealing with my daughter’s silent reflux, the required medication, her 3-5 hour screaming spells and hourly wake-ups at night, not to mention my own low iron levels and post-partum depression, I felt quite hopeless, trapped and overwhelmed. Not to mention that I had just moved countries to get married, leaving my family, friends and support network behind.
That’s when I booked a sleep coach. You can imagine my joy when, after following the personalised advice for only 3 days, my wee girl started sleeping through, 7pm-7am. And this with less tears than before! I was amazed and so grateful, and my daughter was happier and well rested. Sleep had never felt so good.
From then on I knew that I wanted to pass on what I had experienced – the ability to help and support families in a difficult and potentially stressful period of life. So I trained as an infant and child sleep consultant, and set up Sweet Babydreams in 2015. This only added to my previous experience working with children on a volunteer basis for many years and to my previous higher educational knowledge: a BA from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and a Post-graduate Certificate in Children, Young People and Family Wellbeing from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom.
Thus, when my son was born in 2015, I was much better prepared! I worked on establishing healthy sleep habits with him from the beginning, and it has definitely paid off! It’s definitely not perfect; having kids is unquestionably tiring and some sleepless nights are inevitable! However, I am now much better equipped to deal with the issues that arise, and have the skills to be pro-active right from the beginning.
This same confidence is what I would like to offer to you, dear mama!! I know you are tired and perhaps feeling discouraged. However, there IS hope that things can change! I am here to stand by your side, to coach you through your child’s sleep issues, to support you and empower you, and to give you practical skills which give you confidence in your ability to soothe your child to sleep and to impart healthy sleep skills to your child.
My philosophy around sleep is holistic. I not only evaluate your child’s sleep but also their daily rhythms, nutrition, sleep associations and environment, development, age and temperament, as well as your family situation and parenting style. I am committed to finding a solution that fits you individually and which results in better and more peaceful sleep for the whole family. My passion is to see you thriving as a whole family, living full and rested lives.
